This position is located on the Trapper Creek Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center in Darby, MT.
The incumbent works with program directors for the Vocational Skills Training (VST), Vocational Work Based Learning (WBL) and Career Readiness programs and other related Center programs.

Duties
Review and evaluate individual student's abilities and aptitudes to assist them in establishing personal and career goals.
Provide educational and career counseling.
Establish and maintain effective partnerships and mutual agreements of understanding with various business and community representatives having potentially similar interests in utilizing/supporting skills and services of students.
Ensures that Training Achievement Records (TAR) and supplemental materials are current and meet DOL-ETA standards.
Responsible for monitoring and providing continued assessment of students' academic, career/employment skills goals; career transition readiness, and projected dates of completion of Career Technical Training (CTT).
Gather, evaluate and interpret complex data such as Job Corps performance outcomes (placement rate, wage, 6 month, 12 month follow up) and Labor Market Information (LMI).
Plan, organize and direct a vocation/educational program.
Requirements

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Basic Requirement for GS-09:
Education - Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study - vocational rehabilitation, vocational or educational counseling, or other fields related to the position.
- OR -
Specialized Experience: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
Work that required obtaining and applying occupational information for people with disabilities, knowledge of the interrelationships of the involved professional and specialist services, and skill in employment the methodology and techniques of counseling to motivate and encourage individuals serviced by the program.
Experience that demonstrated knowledge of the vocational rehabilitation problems characteristic of the disabled, includes familiarity with available resources and skill in identifying, evaluating, and making effective use of such resources to serve individuals with disabilities; or of the disadvantaged, including knowledge of adjustment problems of the educational or culturally disadvantaged, familiarity with available adult education and training resources, and ability to recognize problem areas needing special attention.
Experience in vocational guidance or teaching in a recognized vocational rehabilitation program or school, developmental or supervisory work in programs of vocational rehabilitation or training programs for the disadvantaged, or personnel or employment placement work that provided extensive knowledge of the training and adjustment requirements necessary to place persons having disabilities or social adjustment problems.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-09: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level).
The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work with major study in vocational rehabilitation, vocational or educational counseling, or other fields related to the position.
Specialized Experience at the GS-7 is defined as most of the following: Assisting in planning, organizing and directing a vocation/education program; arranging, scheduling, and discussing vocational training and aptitude with students; counseling and encouraging students regarding personal and professional goals; monitoring and assessing students' academic, career/employment skills goals, career transition readiness, and projected dates of completion or Career Technical Training; and establishing relationships with other agencies, business associates, private institutions, etc. to implement a vocation/educational program.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
