This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Crop Germplasm Research Unit located in College Station, TX.
In this position, you will be assisting with collecting and evaluating tree-nut orchards or crop samples; documenting research activities or assisting with writing reports; and troubleshooting and maintaining farming equipment.
Duties
Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples of tree-nut orchards and supporting records.
Maintains pesticides and fertilizers for use in the field and safely disposes of waste material.
Assists in experimental design and layout of research orchards for tree-nut crops.
Maintains records and locates and compiles data and other information from various sources.
Works with common equipment and instrumentation required for orchard management and horticulture.
Adapts, modifies or develops new techniques or procedures to satisfy the needs of a biological research project related to tree nuts.
Performs routine and recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized tree-nut crop farm equipment.
Tabulates, statistically analyzes, and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in crop research processes; maintaining and locating records; and utilizing farm equipment.

Education: Successful completion of one full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Crop Science, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or Agronomy.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
GS-08
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting with collecting crop samples; statistically analyzing or summarizing data; and operating farm equipment.

Education: Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Crop Science, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or Agronomy.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
GS-09
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-08 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience collecting and evaluating tree-nut orchards or crop samples; assessing orchard maintenance priorities; summarizing research results for preparation in scientific reports or manuscripts; and operating, maintaining, and modifying farming equipment.

Education: Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Crop Science, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or Agronomy.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above.
