Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-06. At the GS-05 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-06. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds. Duties include but may not be limited to: Performs varied duties to record double entry accrual accounting entries into a centralized integrated accounting system. Receives and processes purchase orders, 1358's, contract, travel orders and similar documents to obligate appropriated funds. Determines computer coding that will generate correct accounting entries to general ledger and subsidiary accounts for adjustments. Reconciles, balances, and maintains the fund control points on a daily basis. Processes and posts documents to appropriate general ledge accounts to obligate funds or make payments. Reconciles subsidiary Financial Management System listings with documents and general ledgers. Gathers and compiles data for reports regarding undelivered orders and accrued services payable to inform audit reviews. Verifies the accuracy of accounts and funds for collection deposits. Provides the Accountant with pertinent information to perform monthly reconciliations, end of month accruals, and when cost transfer is needed to correct costing. Classifies the collection vouchers to determine proper computer coding needed to record in the correct general ledger. Performs monthly review of Financial Services Center reports and annotates follow-up action to inform supervisor. Provides weekly update of undelivered orders and accrued services payable to inform the responsible Service of status. Serves as liaison between vendors, field stations and Financial Services Center to answer questions and resolve problems. Performs other duties as assigned. To qualify at the GS-05 level, applicant(s) must meet at least one of the following: GS-05 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires at least 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to this GS-05 Accounting Technician position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. Examples of specialized experience includes processing accounting transactions in an automated system; reviewing financial documents for accuracy; and experience that displays knowledge of accounting procedures. (Resume(s) must clearly support the duties and experience required for this position. We will not make assumptions regarding experience.) -OR- GS-05 SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed four years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable for this GS-05 Accounting Technician position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. -OR- GS-05 COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements for this GS-05 Accounting Technician position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicant(s) must meet specialized experience described below: GS-06 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires at least 1 year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to this GS-06 Accounting Technician position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include using automated systems to process complex financial transactions; retrieving and formatting financial transactions into verifiable reports; verifying the accuracy of the financial data being analyzed; and experience that displays knowledge of general ledger accounting procedures.
