About the Position: Serves as Supervisory Staff Accountant in the Financial Operations Division in Resource Management Directorate, G8 located at Fort Sam Houston, TX.
Duties
Represents IMCOM G8 at conferences and meetings with private industry and representatives of DOD, ASA (FMC), Comptroller of the Army, Army Activities, OSD and other government departments and agencies.
Determines the action required to improve financial program effectiveness; while ensuring standard application of financial and accounting process and maintain the integrity of financial information.
The incumbent has responsibility for independently planning, designing, and carrying out the programs, projects, and studies under general guidance of the Division Chief.
Achieves a common understanding of problems and develops suitable solutions that will support audit standards and financial reporting.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
- This position requires Financial Management Certification Level 3 within required time frame.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Staff Accountant:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in accounting, or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: which includes at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. My background also includes one of the following: (1) Twentyfour semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; OR (2) A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; OR (3) Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; AND (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; AND (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience establishing accounting programs and processes of central importance to the mission to include accounting principles, theories, applications, accounting processes, mission and responsibilities, and financial management objectives, to resolve problems of unusual difficulty or importance. Resolving extremely complex accounting problems where there are conflicting demands from such conditions as funding priorities, economic interest, and public interest or equivalent concerns. Recognizes trends, current development, and plans for future developments in financial management and systems arena. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13)
