About the Position: This is an interdisciplinary position. This position is in the Defense Health Agency Public Health, Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD. Duties

Serve as a Supervisory Physical Scientist/Chemist over the Radiochemistry Branch providing analytical support for a wide variety of environmental, occupational health, clinical, toxicological, or other samples. Manage available instrumentation and personnel assets to execute incoming sample workload to meet required turnaround time and quality metrics using various radiochemistry techniques. Develop, adapt, modify, and implement analytical testing methods to be used in the detection and quantification of contaminants, pollutants, toxins, etc. in environmental, occupational health, and or biological samples. Perform special studies or projects when requested by customers.

Requirements

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • The incumbent is required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, lab coats, appropriate gloves and steel toe shoes while performing duties.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Education Requirements:Supervisory Physical Science (1301): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics which included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR B. Combination of education and experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Basic Education Requirements:Supervisory Chemist (1320): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Course work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized experience is defined as: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Experience planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, set priorities, and establishes schedules for work completion; 2) Experience planning and conducting complex chemical sample analyses; and 3) Experience applying instrumental and chemical techniques for instrumentation maintenance. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted
