This position is located at the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the V AMC, Miami, Florida. This position provides the staff assistant and administrative support for the service. The primary function of the GRECC is to provide a means of stimulating interest, clinical, education, research, and knowledge in geriatrics.
Duties
Assists in establishing the GRECC as a training site for affiliate medical students and other healthcare professionals.
Assists in exploring opportunities for educational cooperation for MPH, PhD, and other trainees in healthcare issues (e.g., Capstone Projects).
Assists staff in obtaining research grants to promote health in the VA and beyond.
Provides administrative, operational and logistical support.
Prepares and reviews correspondence, plans travel and coordinates meetings.
Performs administrative analysis.
Serves as primary timekeeper, maintaining accurate timecards and backup material in compliance with VA regulation, policies and procedures.
Serves as primary government purchase card holder for service.
Schedules and coordinates high-level service meetings.
Drafts responses to written inquiries.
Gathers data to help develop service's organizational chart.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/19/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Assisting in planning, development, coordination, and implementation of healthcare administrative operations; provide assistance with timekeeping by maintaining accurate timecards and backup material in compliance with VA regulation, policies and procedures; preparing reviews, correspondence, and coordinating various meetings; receives, prepares and reviews purchase requests and purchase orders, receiving reports, obligation authorities, and/or disbursement documents. Primary purchase card holder for service.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, and the incumbent does not have any special physical demands placed on you in this position. The work requires the ability to move around the office and the Medical Center area. lt also requires carrying some items, such as records, books, or papers, and pushing carts.
