This position is located with the Facility Management Branch at Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM. The primary purpose of this position is to perform or assist in performing plumbing work such as installing, repairing, and modifying water supply, sewage disposal, gas distribution, oil line, and similar utility systems and equipment.

Duties
Repairs, installs, test, and modify a wide range of water, sewage, and other utility systems and equipment. Equipment includes water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, showers, and similar equipment which tie into the larger distribution and collection systems, and equipment such as evaporative cooler, circulating pumps, hot water mixing valves, gas furnace, water heaters, disposals, dishwashers, grease-trap when new routing and placement is required.
Install, modify and repair hydronics (chilled water and hot water) low pressure systems. Locates and taps main lines; places and cuts route openings; determines, places and installs proper lines, proper gauge, hangers, valves, traps, and unions where needed.
Assists in pipefitting, performs preventive maintenance, exercises valves, and/or assists other crafts personnel when not accomplishing the work above.
Tests and checks completed work for proper operation, flow, pressure, drainage, and sanitation, including the testing of leaks, air lock, vacuum, and other defects. Records and updates changes f n the plumbing systems on as-built drawings. Documents that inspections have been completed at required intervals.
Applies skill in using tools of the trade, such as tapes, rules, plumb bobs, hand and power pipe threaders, cutters, pipe wrenches, angle drills, hacksaws and power saws, power sewer cleaning equipment, acetylene, propane, cutting and brazing torches, and various gas detectors and meters to do plumbing such as that above.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
WG-09: No specific length of work experience is required. You will be rated on the basis of your response to the assessment questions included in this vacancy announcement, and the information contained in their resume. Your resume must demonstrate the experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: performing plumbing tasks in making repairs, installing, and modifying of pipelines, including sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, and showers.
Physical Effort: The plumbing workers make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of systems worked on being in hard-to-reach places. This requires the employees to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The plumbing workers frequently lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds).
Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. The plumbing workers are sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather. The plumbing workers occasionally make repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are present. The plumbing workers have occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones. The employees also have frequent exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections. May be required to wear safety equipment, such as safety, shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats and other personal protective equipment. Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
