The Atlanta VA Health Care System is recruiting for a Physician- Infectious Disease. They will serves as staff physician in Infectious Diseases (ID) clinic and on inpatient ID consults and has strong knowledge of HIV, hepatitis C, Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and general ID. In addition, the physician is expected to develop and run clinical research activities and to mentor and teach medical students, residents and ID fellows.

Duties

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT to establish an applicant pool to fill vacancies more quickly as they occur. Eligible applications will be reviewed for consideration as vacancies occur. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 09/20/2023. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until position(s) are filled. Duties include but are not limited to: Clinical Responsibilities: Maintains a clinical caseload including outpatient and inpatient treatment at the Atlanta VAMC using in-person and telehealth modality. The applicant should have excellent knowledge in management of HIV, hepatitis C, general ID, PrEP, and primary care. The applicant is expected to have his/her own panel of HIV patients and to staff clinic when other providers, Medicine residents, and ID fellows are in clinic. Other responsibilities will include: Develop anal pap and high resolution anoscopy program in the ID clinic Completing ID E-consults in a timely manner Evaluating and following patients in General ID clinic including patients with HCV, HBV, PrEP patients and other Gen ID clinic patients Academic/Teaching/Training: Provides leadership, guidance, and teaching to medical students, residents and ID fellows in the form of supervision and didactic lectures at the Atlanta VAMC, in addition to lectureship to other providers. Teaching experience within an academic setting is preferable. Research/Program Evaluation: Pursues collaborative or individually funded research as a principal investigator or co-investigator or collaborator in ID including clinical or translational research. Successful funding of grants is encouraged and would lead to redistribution of time into funded research endeavors Work Schedule: TBD Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Eligible: No Telework: Not eligible Financial Disclosure Report: Not required

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Preferred Experience Subspecialty boards in Medicine and in Infectious Diseases. VA experience and knowledge of VA scheduling directives and resident supervision in inpatient and outpatient areas required. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs); moderate carrying (15-44 lbs); straight pulling (1 hour); pushing (1 hour); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (5 hours); standing (4 hours); kneeling (1 hour); repeated bending (4 hours); both legs required; ability to perform rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; hearing (aid permitted); emotional/mental stability.
