This position is located at Tohatchi Health Center in Tohatchi, NM. The purpose of this position is to provide security guard services. Responsible for the protection of life and property of all persons on government premises and patrols all government buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft and vandalism. The officer secures, unlocks and protects government buildings and property and responds to the security needs of all service unit personnel, patients and visitors.
Duties
Protects property and equipment against trespass, theft, fire, and accidental or willful damage and destruction.
Monitors access to premises by verifying authorization using locally established badge and vehicle registration systems. Spot checks badges, registrations, supply requisitions, property passes, etc., to ensure compliance with established procedures.
Ensures incident scene is preserved for Police investigators and provides written reports of findings concerning incident to the supervisor. Pursues and detains persons- fleeing a disturbance/incident or attempting to resist detainment.
Conducts periodic parcel, package, container, and equipment checks following prescribed special procedures to ensure only authorized property is brought into or removed from the facility.
Emergency Response and Enforcement Activities-Responds to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients. Communicates with and assists Law Enforcement (Navajo Police Department, Volunteer and Crownpoint Fire Departments and Juvenile Detention Center) as needed.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
NOTE: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-04: Applicant must have successfully completed 2 years above high school -OR-Your resume must demonstrate at least six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
General experience: Experience such as administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information.
Specialized experience: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying.
Investigation of Fitness: A character investigation may be conducted on applicants selected for employment. The purpose of such an investigation is to secure evidence of the candidate's honesty, integrity, general character, and loyalty to the U.S. Government. Such investigations will be conducted under the security requirements of the hiring agency.
Medical Requirements: The duties of these positions require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/ or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
