Incumbent performs journeyman level masonry work in the maintenance, repair, alternation and construction of exterior and interior surfaces and structures built of a variety of brick, block, and stone. This includes several miles of roads, curbing, and sidewalks.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to;
Cut and lays all type of brick and masonry, selecting and shaping materials for the desired rough or finished surface materials including cement, concrete, plaster, asphalt, cinder block, glass block, ceramic tile, quarry tile, marble and natural or limitation stone.
Mixes, molds and shapes cement, plaster, stucco, and other materials to resemble stone, brick and time limitations or to conform to desired or existing decorative designs.
Demolishes, rebuilds, refinishes, or repairs existing masonry walls, installs access doors in hanging ceilings or partition walls, repairs existing or sets new ceramic walls or floors grouting, lay firebrick, fire fire resistant mortar, construction smokestacks, and/or waterproofing where necessary. Will use a multitude of power and hand tools and is expected to assist in carpentry work when required. Finishes gypsum wallboard installation by taping, spackling and finish sanding.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Required to stoop, stand, kneel and lift cinder and concrete blocks and lift bags of cement and climb ladders. Is frequently required to perform heavy lifting up to 90 pounds in carrying bricks, block, stone, mortar, cement, and sand. incumbent is continually required to stand while working and must frequently climb ladders and scaffolds.
Works indoors and outdoors in damp areas. Is exposed to cement dust, sharp tools and falling masonry and possible falls from ladders and scaffolds. Subject to cuts and bruises. Is also exposed to dust and dirt while mixing mortar and while handling various masonry materials.
