Duties
Provides support for physicians and Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists in order to complete various imaging exams, including but not limited to myelograms, arthrograms, transcatheter arterial chemoembolization, radiofrequency ablation, biopsies, drainages, sterile fields/angio room set-up, ultrasound exams, CT scans, angiography and MRI scans.
Instructs patients on the oral intake of contrast as well as initiate intravenous access in preparation for contrast administration during the imaging procedures.
Prepare rooms and patients for examinations.
Setting up the procedure rooms and assuring that sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters and other required equipment/supplies are present and readily available for the physician or physician assistant.
Responsible for care, maintenance, packaging and inventory of correct instruments/supplies, verifying and inspecting supply rooms for supplies nearing expiration or that have expired.
Collects appropriate clinical data for physician's review, to include the imaging protocol and IR scheduling checklist.
Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned work areas and imaging holding areas.
Schedules patients for imaging exams, clearly communicating the procedure requirements and preparation instructions.
Ensures appropriate exams are scheduled in accordance with the outlined IR procedures schedules.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: assisting with the preparation and protection of sterile fields during Radiologic Procedures; monitoring and maintaining aseptic techniques throughout Radiologic procedures; handling medical instruments, supplies and equipment during Radiologic procedures; performing proper cleaning techniques, as well as the proper handling and rotation of sterile supplies; handling contaminated items, quality control, and personal hygiene, using knowledge of universal precautions and implementing infection control policies and procedures. Note: This experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, beginning and ending date (month/year) of employment AND hours worked per week. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed one half (½) year of graduate education with a major that included courses directly related to the work of this position. Such graduate education must demonstratethe knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting and carrying of light and moderate heavy items. The work may require lifting of heavy equipment and patients.
