This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located with the Department of Radiology at Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

Duties

Serve as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist in an Army medical and surgical hospital, independently performing complex and highly specialized angiographic and interventional procedures for Interventional Radiology (IR) in a training capacity. Independently prepares patients, exam rooms and procedure tables using techniques which are categorized as dirty, clean, sterile or aseptic. Observe patient responses during procedures such as instructions given, movement, touch, etc., if significant, and if necessary, renders emergency aid and summons assistance. Perform procedures that include neurological, thoracic, abdominal/pelvic and peripheral studies of the arterial/venous systems, non-vascular genitourinary, gastrointestinal and other miscellaneous studies. Provide assistance to the radiologist as the primary circulator during all cases and also acts as a scrub technologist when needed. Provide guidance for Radiology residents and assists in the training of68P students and other civilian technologists in IR principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques, and equipment. Communicate to the supervisor of any performance improvement issues and be able to help correct deficiencies within their scope of practice.

  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Employee may be required to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
  • This position requires an American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Certification.
  • The duties of this position may require the incumbent to be on call for emergencies.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others. (2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized experience: is defined as: performing diagnostic radiologic examinations to include assisting in interventional radiology; preparing complex sterile surgical set-ups or preparing or administering contrast material. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). OR Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-09: Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Diagnostic Radiology/Radiography. OR Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-09: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 18 hours (total semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
