This position is located in Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, in the Interpretation Division. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately July through May, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties

- Acts as the Educational Liaison between Casa Grande Ruins National Monument and the monument's six affiliated tribal partners to assure the accuracy and respectfulness of educational materials presented and produced by the Monument. - Presents interpretive and educational programs and products to small groups, usually smaller than 20 people. - Serves as front-line representative to greet visitors, provide information, give formal and informal presentations, and direction. - Performs day-to-day operations of visitor center in accordance with standard operating procedures including opening and closing of the facilities. Advises visitors of the regulations governing visitation to the sites and the need to protect resources. - Responsible for monitoring and reporting the condition of the park resources, working closely with interpretive colleagues, other divisions, and ensuring the safety of visitors, employees, and the public. - Provides a wide range of services to visitors including assistance with lost articles, first aid, information about weather conditions, and directions to local highways/interstates. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Area Information: Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is conveniently located halfway between Phoenix and Tucson in the friendly city of Coolidge, Arizona. Shopping/medical are available in Coolidge one (1) mile from park headquarters. Full range of shopping, medical, dental and recreational facilities available in Casa Grande (18 mi.), Phoenix area (50 mi.) and Tucson (60 mi.). Kindergarten through senior high school available in Coolidge. Day care is available in Coolidge. A college is located between Coolidge and Casa Grande, 10 mi. from Coolidge. In addition, there are several other points of interest within a 35-mile radius of Coolidge such as Picacho Peak State Park, the Historic Town of Florence, Boyce Thompson Southwestern Arboretum, Lost Dutchman State Park in the Superstition Mountains and Huhugam Heritage Center. Casa Grande Ruins is located in a desert environment, with temperatures that range from the low 30's in winter to over 110 degrees in the summer. No government quarters available.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/22/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position requires in depth knowledge and/or experience working with Native American Cultures. Experience must be documented within your resume. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: park guide or tour leader; environmental educator or teacher; or other similar education work. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of a four-year course (120 semester/180 quarter credits) of study leading to a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university. This study may be in any field. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. For example, 6 months of specialized experience at the GS-04 level (50% of the required experience) and 90 semester credits of appropriate undergraduate education (50% of the education as described above). You must include transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: park guide or tour leader; environmental educator, teacher or naturalist; or other similar work REQUIRING skill in working with audiences of diverse backgrounds, ages and group sizes and knowledge of topics related to cultural history, natural history, biological/physical sciences, natural resources, or other disciplines related to resource-based education. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.


There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-6 grade level of this announcement.
