This position is located in the Roads and Grounds Section of the Facilities Management Services Line at the VAMC Tomah, WI. The primary purpose of the position is to provide linen pick-up and delivery at various locations throughout the VAMC Tomah campus.

Duties

Major duties: Loads carts of clean linen onto truck. Each cart of clean linen may weigh 300-900 pounds. The carts of clean linen are then transported to various locations throughout the Medical Center. Must handle and transport contaminated, linen which is stored in soiled linen rooms. Assists with the loading of soiled linen and the removing of clean linen onto/off the VA Madison laundry truck. Grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, trimming trees and bushes, snow removal, shoveling, deicing, salt and brine distribution as weather and workload dictates. Operates vehicles with a gross weight of 10,000 pounds; on federal, state, county roads, and city streets in all traffic and weather conditions. Performs operator maintenance on assigned vehicle. Checks and fills fluid levels radiator, engine oil, windshield washer solvent, power steering fluid, etc. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, 5:00am - 1:30pm. Subject to shift changes and Holiday work. Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer/PD03540A Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent will be required to lift, carry, pull, push, and move materials from 50 to 900 pounds. May operate a large van box type truck weighing in excess of 20,000 lbs. Works outside during extreme weather conditions which includes various work surfaces. Must exercise extreme caution during ice/snow conditions. Will be exposed to noise, vibration, dirt and fumes from the truck motor and exhaust. May be stung by insects.
