As an Attorney Advisor, you will work under the direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel for Federal Lands. You will be responsible for the performance of legal services and coordination of legal activities concerning the Federal Lands Highway program for the procurement and administration of Agency contracts and grants along with the defense and prosecution of Agency actions.

Qualifications
To meet the basic qualifications for this position, you must (1) meet the Mandatory Requirements, AND (2) provide a copy of your transcript(s) and bar membership for verification and (3) meet the specialized experience requirements for each grade you are applying to. (1) Mandatory requirements for all grade levels:
You must have successfully attained a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA); AND
You must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a State or Territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.

(3) Specialized Experience: In addition to the mandatory requirements, your experience must be of a progressively responsible nature for the number of years listed pertaining to each grade level that you apply to. Be sure to verify how you meet this experience in your resume or you may be deemed ineligible.
Grade 12 - One (1) year of professional legal work experience.
Grade 13 - Two (2) years of professional legal work experience.
Grade 14 - Three (3) years of professional legal work experience which must include sufficient experience in at least one of the following legal practice areas: litigation and/or procurement law.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Administrative/Procurement Law - Knowledge of Federal administrative and procurement laws, including procedures, regulations, and guidelines, and precedents related to case preparation and settlements.
Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Writing - Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner; produces written information, which may include technical material, that is appropriate for the intended audience.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
