You will serve as a SHEET METAL MECHANIC in Kings Bay, Georgia, int the Service Shop (Code 990), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will develop patterns and templates. You will plan lay-outs, cuts forms, install, assemble, and modify a wide variety of sheet metal items and components. You will plan, lay-out, install, modify, and maintain the mechanical component of temporary ventilation and heating systems aboard ships. You will perform maintenance and modifications on temporary field offices, trailers, and causality control shacks.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Ability to interpret and apply blueprints, sketches, specifications, and procedures. Ability to use and maintain the tools and equipment of the trade such as: hand tools, basic drafting instruments, taps, dies, drill presses, band saws, power shears, power and manual breaks, rollers, notch and punch machines, spot welders, grinders, rivet sets, drill motors, aviation snips, and bulldog snips. Ability to follow the safety precautions, work methods, and principles of the sheet metal trade; the characteristics and properties of a wide range of materials; ventilation requirement for a wide range of specialized jobs.
