You will serve as the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport Technical Representative to Program Executive Office, Undersea Warfare Systems (PEO UWS), Submarines (TEAMSUB) organization, located at Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC, via the NUWC Division Newport Field Team (Code 0CA3) not-to-exceed (NTE) a period of one year. The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15.

Duties

You will serve as a Technical Representative and liaison to TEAMSUB providing acquisition, Science and Technology and technical support, insights, and guidance. You will provide NUWC Division Newport insight into TEAMSUB priorities, efforts, and support needs. You will support Team Sub Tactical Submarine Evolution Plan (TSEP) activities, participate on the TSEP Integrated Product Team, and provide planning and execution support. You will support the TEAMSUB Submarine Unified Build Strategy (SUBS), identify, assess, and propose opportunities to leverage technologies between Virginia Class, Columbia Class, and SSN(X) platforms. You will participate in Unmanned Systems payload integration integrated product teams (UxS IPT), helping to identify and resolve capability gaps through incorporation of materiel or non-materiel solutions. You will provide input into the PEO UWS Science and Technology Objectives (STOs). You will support the transition of capabilities, systems, and technologies from Research and Development initiatives to PEO UWS program offices. You will provide liaison to the Undersea Warfare Science and Technology community of interest to maintain awareness of future Fleet priorities, including materiel and non-materiel priorities. You will provide liaison to the Submarine Tactical Requirements Group (STRG) to inform Team Sub executive leadership of STRG requirements and for the identification of potential solutions addressing STRG needs. You will liaise with TEAM SUB, PEO UWS as applicable as a complement to the PMS advisory members. You will coordinate with other NUWC Division Newport representatives within TEAMSUB. You will serve as a technical representative on community forums, working groups, etc. at the discretion of NUWC and TEAMSUB with principal coordination via PEO UWS. You will interact with Government, industry, and academia to identify and assess submarine priorities and provide doctrinal and materiel solutions. You will report to and prepare material and briefs for senior military and civilian personnel.

Requirements

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), a Computer Engineer (0854-series), an Electronics Engineer (0855-series), a Mathematician (1520-series), or a Computer Scientist (1550-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Education

Applicants must meet at least one of the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

• Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Degree: A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university; OR a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics; OR
• Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Substitution of Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
