The Orlando VA Medical Center is seeking for a registered Nurse to fill our Assistant Nurse Manager (Medicine Specialty) position in our Nursing, Mental Health Service who collaborates effectively and provides leadership, and clinical direction to promote safe, efficient patient care for Veterans within the Orlando VA Healthcare System.

The Assistant Nurse Manager (Medicine Specialty) is located at The William V. Chappell, Jr., VA OPC, address, 551 National Health Care Drive. Daytona Beach, FL 32114 and will be expected to cover Daytona Beach, Deltona, Viera, and the PRRC.
The Daytona Beach Medical Specialty Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a registered professional nurse who is accountable to the Nurse Manager. The ANM also collaborates with the Chief Nurse of Mental Health and Associate Director of Patient Care Services, to develop goals and objectives that support the strategic plan and meet the needs of the Veterans that result in a positive clinical outcome.
The Assistant Nurse Manager is a registered professional nurse who is accountable to the Nurse Manager. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager functions as a supervisor and assumes accountability for the operation of a designated area of practice. This includes the management, supervision, and evaluation of care delivered by nursing and other allied health care staff. As a registered nurse, the ANM demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise, leadership, and creative approaches to management of complex care. The ANM applies skills necessary to coordinate and/or identify discipline-specific education, training in leadership, professional staff development, and emerging needs to all levels of staff. The ANM (Medical Specialty) is also responsible for contributing to the establishment and implementation of evidenced-based nursing standards of practice. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, creates a positive work environment which enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff. The ANM promotes, creates, demonstrates, and ensures a culturally diverse workforce in which the values and needs of all individuals are respected. The ANM serves as Acting Nurse Manager in the absence of the Nurse Manager and provides oversight for the administration of leave, counseling, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
The ANM is assigned to the Daytona Beach Outpatient Mental Health clinic which includes the medical specialty clinics. The ANM and the Nurse Manager are a high functioning team, working cohesively to create a positive work environment which enhances care delivered by nurses within the outpatient mental health/medical specialty clinics. Is accountable for enforcing disciplinary actions if needed and will maintain a collaborative and consultive partnership with Human Resources and the Union. The expectation is the ANM goes into staffing to support operations. Position is 60% administrative and 40% direct care. 25% travel is required in this ANM role. When there are gaps in coverage or when the Nurse Manager is absent the ANM will be expected to cover Daytona Beach, Deltona, Viera, and the PRRC.
The Assistant Nurse Manager (Medicine Specialty) performs activities including but not limited to support for:
Delegates and coordinates workflow, supervision of subordinates, staffing the clinics.
Works with other Nurse Managers/Program Managers to identify solutions to improve access and patient engagement.
Makes sound fiscal decisions when requesting supplies, approving time off, and authorizing overtime in compliance with facility and hospital financial goals.
Responsible for coaching, mentoring, and supervising subordinate staff.
Works collaboratively with the team to ensure that all administrative functions are adequately covered.
Responsible for ensuring nursing staff and the environment of care are following Joint Commission and OIG regulations and directives.
Expected to be involved in direct patient care when needed when there are nursing shortages,
Work Schedule: Full time shift Monday - Friday 0730 to 1600 must be flexible to meet the needs of the organization

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
Previous Mental Health experience preferred.
BSN preferred.
Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience.
Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required.

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, kneeling, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual, capable of working effectively in stressful situations, and able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
