Duties

Plans the overall allocation of personnel and other resources to the organizational segments supervised to accomplish work operations which, because of their scope, volume, and complexity, must be planned on a quarterly or longer basis. Analyzes the work plans developed by subordinate supervisors for accomplishment of assigned work orders and projects and the status of work being accomplished in relation to overall schedule requirements, including unanticipated or emergency requirements. Provides higher level managers and/or supervisors information on status of work projects, budget estimates, changes in equipment, facilities, techniques, etc. Participates in planning conferences and meetings. Coordinates and directs the work of units supervised. Assigns and explains work requirements to subordinate supervisors and sets deadlines. Balances work load for subordinate work groups. Promotes economical and efficient work operations. Analyzes production, cost and personnel utilization records and makes adjustment in operations to correct problems. Prepares operating instructions and work plans to be followed by subordinate workers in accomplishing critical or emergency work projects. Spot checks work operations to assure production and quality standards are met. Coordinates work operations with other organizations and functions. Encourages employees to achieve management goals. Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors and reviews personnel actions prepared by them. Makes formal appraisal of supervisors' work performance and reviews employee appraisals submitted by them. Determines training needs for all levels of subordinates. Promotes and administers such programs as cost reduction, incentive awards, suggestions, and quality assurance. Ensures that regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed. Assures that subordinate supervisors carry out such programs as labor-management and equal opportunity. Schedules leave. Ensures that position descriptions are accurate and that position management principles are followed. Assures that appropriate production reports and administrative records are maintained. Acts on personnel problems referred by subordinate supervisors. Hears and resolves grievances and ensures proper corrective action is taken. Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Alaska Air National Guard membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

  • U.S. Citizenship and Secret Clearance is required.

  • APPOINTMENT FACTORS: Excepted/Enlisted in the Alaska Air National Guard.
  • MILITARY GRADE REQUIREMENT: Due to the nature of this position, the minimum military grade is Master Sergeant (MSgt/E7) and the maximum military grade is Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt/E8).
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience which is directly related to the position to be filled and which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. WS-12 - Must have at least 36 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations. Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Your experience will be evaluated on the basis of duties performed. Your record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities to fully perform the duties of this position.
