THIS IS A NORTH DAKOTA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This ND National Guard position is for a NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER, Position Description Number D2320000 and is part of the ND 119 Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, National Guard.
Duties
As the Non-Destructive Tester you will inspect aerospace weapon systems components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods and performs fluid analysis.
Determines test method and prepares fluids and parts for nondestructive inspection.
Performs nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems.
Applies magnetic particle and/or liquid penetrant inspection to detect and interpret the relevancy of flaws in a variety of parts.
Uses and maintains tools.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Maintains records and documents actions.
Requirements
- NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the ND National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Applicants who are not currently a member of the ND National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the ND National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
- Males bon after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposition is mandatory.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Spe 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
- Technicians are required to perform annual task evaluations on each inspection duty in order to maintain certification.
- May be required to possess a valid operator’s license to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE
Length of time is not of itself qualifying. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to set up and operate test equipment, use test apparatus to apply tests to material or products, record readings, observe and record established reactions, and classify according to defined categories.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least 18 months experience or training in using current inspection techniques to observe, measure, and detect discontinuities and flaws; experience classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies and recommending courses of action for items of equipment; experience performing scheduled inspections of equipment ensuring compliance with established technical regulations and procedures.
