This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent - Pine Ridge Agency, Deputy Superintendent of Indian Services, Social Services, in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.

Duties
Provide casework services to assist with problems resulting from broken homes, disorganized family life, or emotional problems.
Discuss family problems with clients analyzing factors contributing to family problems and independently develops a casework plan.
Interviews, review resources, determine eligibility, and sets up financial plans for applicants qualifying for general assistance.
Certifies clients to the Tribal Work Experience Program and provides counseling services to these clients when they seek such services or when notified that client is experiencing difficulty working under the program.
Conduct office interviews and makes home visits reviewing the resources and to assess the social environment of the home to determine continued eligibility for general assistance.
Conduct on-site visits at assigned areas (communities) to provide general assistance in remote areas.
Initiates or cooperates in joint planning services to families and children with Tribal, State, Federal, and other local agencies.
Initiates and/or cooperates with other agency branches and public welfare agencies in helping clients take advantage of local, state, and federal social services programs.
Provides oversight and assumes responsibility for evaluating and recommending needed improvements to the automated and manual data systems used by human services programs for monitoring IIM supervised accounts.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0187: Social Services Series).
GS-8: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service in a program of direct social welfare services that required the application of program policy and operations knowledge in providing social welfare services and/or assisting social workers. Specialized experience is experience in a program of direct Social Welfare Services that required the application of program policy and operations knowledge in providing social welfare services and/or assisting social workers.
Examples of specialized experience may include familiarity with standard case management principles and procedures, and understanding of importance of the social service process with American Indians and Tribes to create a social environment in their communities that emphasizes safety and well-being for all children and adults, promote family stability, and value an individual's independence while providing protection and financial assistance and/or social services to those who must remain dependent. Development and maintaining of IIM accounts. The examples above are not all inclusive (refer to the summary of duties for specialized experience).
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
