Duties

1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION The LGBTQ + Veteran Care Program Coordinator is a Social Work Program Coordinator whose primary responsibilities are to provide clinical evidence-based services including, assessments and interventions; program development; Veteran, family, caregiver and staff education on LGBTQ + healthcare; community outreach; resource development; continuous quality improvement activities; and evaluation/consultation. The incumbent is responsible for providing support, education, and consultation to all 9 OVAHCS sites. In addition, the incumbent must be a skilled communicator capable of developing effective partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies as well as nongovernmental organizations. The incumbent is administratively responsible and accountable for the clinical and program development and effectiveness of the facility LGBTQ + Veteran Care Program. Develops policies and procedures for program operation and prepares reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use. The incumbent may be responsible for the program's budget and various control points assigned to the program within the assigned areas. The incumbent manages and controls the use of data related to these programs regarding day to day functioning and program evaluation. In conjunction with the ACOS Mental Health or his/her designee, plans, organizes and directs administrative, operational, Veteran and personnel activities for the service. Social Workers must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The LGBTQ + Veteran Care Program Coordinator has experience that demonstrates the advanced practice skill level in social work. At least one year of experience at the GS 11 grade level. The incumbent must be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed by a state to practice at the advanced practice level and be able to provide supervision for licensure. The incumbent will function in support of Veterans, family members, and Caregivers throughout the medical center and in community settings. The incumbent will also be responsible to establish partnerships with all VA Veteran service programs (such as IPV, ID, HCHV, VR) that impact LGBTQ + Veterans as well as the Veteran advocates, VA Police, and the Veteran Experience Officer. The LGBTQ + Veteran Care Program Coordinator is practicing at the advanced level and has specialized knowledge of practice that can be differentiated from the independent practice social worker by the ability to expand clinical knowledge in the profession, administer a facility program, provide consultation and guidance to colleagues, role model effective social work practice skills, teach or provide orientation to less experienced social workers, develop innovations in practice interventions, and provide clinical supervision for social work licensure or certification. The incumbent in this position requires advanced knowledge and understanding of the services and benefits available for Veterans, their family members, Caregivers, and VA employees from both federal, state and private sector resources The incumbent is responsible for developing and establishing linkages and collaborates on LGBTQ + Veteran Care Program efforts with community healthcare and social service agencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 15 days of the closing date of this announcement. Basic Requirements: U.S. Citizenship: Must a citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. Education: Must have a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) Licensure. Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the advanced practice level to qualify at the GS-12 level. (COPY OF LICENSE REQUIRED) IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING GS-12 GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Experience: Must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Program coordinators at the GS-12 grade are administratively responsible for a clinical program providing treatment to patients in a major specialty. They may be the sole practitioner in this specialty at the facility and typically provide direct patient care services in the program area. They manage the daily operation of the program, develop policies and procedures for program operation, and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use. They may be responsible for the program's budget. Applicants must also meet the Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below: 1. In-depth knowledge of the program coordinated, and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. 2. Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. 3. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. 4. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and evaluate assigned program area(s). 5. Ability to provide training, orientation, consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice. References: VA Handbook 5005/23, Part II, Appendix G39. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary, but requires some walking, standing, bending, the carrying of light items such as books and papers, and traveling.
