The position is assigned to the Maintenance and Operations section of the Facilities Management Service, in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Sheridan VA Medical Center. Assist various facility trades in the preventative and daily maintenance of the medical facility. These duties include carpentry, plumbing, electricity, heating and air, electronics and painting. They work minor low voltage electronics as would be found in components such as a data cable, printers and copiers.
Duties
Duties to include but not limited to:

Assisting in repairs to floors, floor coverings, ceilings, walls, partitions, cabinets, shelves, and door sashes, casings, and related hardware.
Assist with constructing installing, repairing and modifying structural units that require close tolerant fit and structural soundness (i.e, but not limited to building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, built in furniture, etc.).
Mounting signs, boards, cabinets, medical equipment holders, pictures and like objects to walls and other surfaces. Incumbent interprets drawings, blueprints and specifications in determining the construction layouts and work sequences to be completed with the types of lumber/metal or special related materials.
Conducts tests of air conditioning units and makes straightforward repairs that can be made without specialized equipment.
Makes visual, audible and mechanical checks for the proper temperature of conditioned spaces; the proper operation of different parts of the refrigeration cycle; proper oil levels; unusual noises; overheated bearings; loose connections; faulty insulation; frayed or loose belts, gaskets and pulleys; and other similar defects.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 07:30am to 16:00pm

Physical Requirements: Physical exertion is considerable and includes prolonged standing, climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding, working in cramped and awkward positions, reaching, lifting, and bending when using hand and power tools. Weight lifted may exceed 50 pounds. Hoists, holders, and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers and chillers. Assistance is usually available for handling heavier materials and equipment. Heavy exertion is required at frequent intervals. Must have physical capacities for working outside in excessive heat, excessive noise, confined areas, inclement weather and on slippery or uneven surfaces that can be found at or in transit
to and from worksites.
