This position is responsible for the delivery of Whole Health Coaching and skill development of the local Medical Center's Whole Health Coach program at Montrose, NY, including provision of care through coaching and promotion and education regarding Whole Health Coaching to Veterans and staff.
Duties

NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 9/30/2026). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4-year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
Major Duties:
Contacts eligible participants for enrollment and explain the health coaching process.
Conducts interventions for Veterans using one-on-one, couple, or group modalities in outpatient and inpatient settings.
Provides follow-up care through telephone clinics or secure messaging between face-to-face appointments.
Actively guides Veterans in the exploration of core elements of personal health planning through individual and group-based programs.
Encourages and assists Veterans with the adoption of habits that are conducive to a higher quality of life and in alignment with eh Veteran's goals.
Identify habits and behaviors that are harmful to quality of life and related to chronic illness.
Reviews current health behaviors and develops customized treatment plans with Veterans.
Individualizes intervention strategies to help the client utilize existing skills and develop new ones to enhance success.
Schedules ongoing sessions to assess progress and assist in navigating obstacles or challenges.
Develops information for Veterans about the Whole Health Group and individual programs.
Conducts outreach activities to inform Veterans and family members of available programs.
Performs all duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-Time Employment: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday

Qualifications
Individual Occupational Requirements for Social Science Series, 0101, Basic Education Requirements:
Possess a Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Transcripts Required) OR
Possess a Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Transcripts Required) OR
Possess Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Transcripts Required)
In addition to meeting the Basic Education Requirement above, you must also meet the minimum qualifications below to qualify for this position.
Minimum Qualifications For GS-9:
Possess at least one full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of GS-7 in Federal service. Specialized experience is possessing of health coaching structure, process, and techniques; identifying patient motivation for change, developing, and implementing treatment plans to reach goals, and assessing progress to adjust plans as necessary; and developing goals designed to improve health outcomes. OR
Possess 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered an academic year of graduate study. (Transcripts Required) OR
Possess a Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience. (Transcripts Required)
In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.
Preferred Experience: National certification through International Consortium of Health and Well-Being Coaches (ICHWC), or 100 hours of coaching experience, or 1 year experience providing change management support/counseling.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk, although the position requires the ability to move from one geographic location of the facility to another. Some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending or prolonged sitting may be required. The work places no special physical demands on the employee. Work is performed in an office setting with occasional visits to areas within the service as well as throughout the Medical Center. Work area is adequately lighted, heated and air conditioned. The normal risks and discomforts typical of an office and clerical work area are included. There are no unusual risks or safety hazards associated with this position.
