This position is part of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Department of Energy. As a Supervisory Accountant, you will report to aDivision Director within the OFA and oversee the complex technical aspects and provides services to the entire Department. You will also provide advice and works on complex and precedent-setting policies and procedures. On a consistent and regular basis, acts on behalf of the Division Director.
Duties
This is a remote restricted position, Selectee may work from home; however, must reside within commuting distance (50 miles) of DOE Worksite - Germantown, Maryland.

- This position requires the incumbent to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, Executive Branch Personnel Confidential Financial Disclosure Report upon entering the position and annually (5CFR Part 2634, Subpart I USOGE, 6/08)
- New supervisors are required to complete 80 hours of supervisory training of which 40 hours must be completed during your first year as a supervisor.
- New supervisors/managers are required to serve a one-year probationary period.
- This position requires a security clearance. Failure to obtain and maintain the required security clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. Are you able to obtain or maintain a security clearance
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will participate in drug urinalysis testing.
- This position is approved to work remotely full-time, but that if selected you must reside within a realistic commuting distance (50 Miles) of the DOE Worksite - Germantown, MD.
- Reporting to the DOE Worksite every pay period will not be required, however you may be required to do so with some regularity (e.g., a few times a quarter) for work that cannot be performed remotely.
- If selected, you will be required to sign a remote work agreement after entry into the position.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements shown in "Education" section of the vacancy announcement, you must also meet the Specialized Experience as described below.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
1) Utilizing principles, procedures, methods, in financial management in order to correct improper payments.
2) Briefing senior leadership on politically sensitive topics, rectify differing opinions and comments into a final product, and writing qualitative and quantitative narratives.
3) Interpreting internal control requirements to solve specific difficult and complex problems and to gather and analyze information related to Federal financial management including audit and internal controls.
4) Utilizing data-analytic techniques, skills, and trend analysis to identify improper payment strategies, internal controls business process improvements and recommend information to senior management and leadership for decision making
Education
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
A. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.")
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
- Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;
- A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination;
OR
Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
