This position is located at the Lockport Service Unit in Lockport, NY. The Behavioral Health Technician performs a wide range of patient care support duties in the Behavioral Health Clinic, outpatient behavioral health setting.
Duties
Provide Patient Care Support Services
Receive patients. This includes scheduling patients, checking in patients, and completing GPRA for each patient.
Schedule and manage all patient appointments in a computerized database, RPMS; manage patient appointments and provider schedules using Practice Management software.
Complete reminder calls for all scheduled patients 24-48 hours prior to their next Behavioral Health appointment (Monday appointments will need to be called the previous Friday).
Receive all calls coming to the Behavioral Health Clinic and redirect/transfer calls to other departments, clinics, or community resources as necessary.
Establish warm, welcoming relationships with patients.
Provide Clinical Assistance (35%)
Update patient electronic medical records charts as needed; document all contacts and attempted contacts with patients in RPMS.
Administer intake/registration paperwork and screening tools (such as the PHQ-9, BDI, AUDIT, etc.).
Obtain and record accurate vital signs (height, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure) and recognize abnormal vital signs and report to the Provider.
Prepare telehealth patient room if necessary, establish the videoconference connection with the provider's location, and provide basic information to patients regarding the telehealth process.
Perform Other Clinic Duties
Attend, participate in, and take minutes in the weekly Behavioral Health team meetings.
Assist in the development of performance and process improvement initiatives (PDSAs).
Assist with supply orders as needed.
Perform all tasks in compliance with HIPAA requirements, AAAHC guidelines, Lockport Service Unit policies and procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures.
Perform other related duties as
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Health Aid and Technician Series, 0640 Individual Occupational Requirements: Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Specialized Experience: Experience working in the field of mental health and/or medicine and managing the day-to-day operations of the clinic; Experience understanding anatomy, various states of illness, and advanced disease, treatments and diagnostic procedures; Infection control, aseptic, and sterile techniques; Experience observing patient's physical and emotional response to care; Experience utilizing various computer applications and electronically document in medical records; Exhibit a working knowledge of missions, organizations, programs and requirements of health care delivery systems; Experience analyzing and recommending solutions to complicated problems; Flexibility to meet the needs of multiple physicians and/or schedule adjustments.
OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have ONE (1) full year of graduate education.(TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE PROVIDED)
OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education as stated above. (TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE PROVIDED)
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
