About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. Employees work a 4/10 work week, Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and daily child care available. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center, (Mass transportation is available at minimal cost.) Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties

Conduct daily safety checks of material handling equipment to ensure safe operation. Check facility for safety hazards to prevent on-the-job accidents. Receive and complete warehousing work assignments through verbal or written work instructions.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires a valid, State-issued motor vehicle driver's license.
• This position requires Incumbent to participate in Temporary Duty Travel (TDY).
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health/ ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Position is subject to realignment/movement within the Mission organization due to changing mission requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Materials Handler duties. I can consolidate material and provide maximum space utilized and protection of materials. I have used materials handling equipment to lift loads weighing 10,000 pounds or more that are higher than 168 inches also operate motor vehicles under 26,000 pounds that may be equipped with air brakes. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision PHYSICAL EFFORT: Regularly stand on hard surfaces for extended period of time. Constant kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping and walking are required. Works in tiring and uncomfortable positions and in close quarters. Frequently lift and move equipment, components or material weighing up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are lifted with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Incumbent may climb in, on and under vehicles and other large, mechanized equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, cramp, cold, drafty or poorly lighted. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. May be subject to exposure of hazardous material. May require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, gloves, masks, etc. Steel toed shoes are always required.
