You will serve as an INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER in the ENGINEERING and PLANNING DEPARTMENT, CHIEF ENGINEER DIVISION of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Duties

You will manage the planning, development and execution of Division's Engineering and Planning Programs relating to subject area of responsibility (AOR), overseeing non-nuclear engineering requirements. You will prepare Technical Work Documents with tasks describing operations to be performed in work step sequence sufficiently detailed to service as shop work instructions, identify areas for process improvements. You will serve as liaison and team integrator to independently resolve engineering issues and/or problems within assigned division, exercising extreme care in the accumulation and presentation of facts as they have significance beyond the Command. You will organize, chair and/or participate in various Ship/Sub Alteration/Modernization management programs/projects-related conferences. You will interpret and ensure compliance with technical and contractual requirements, standards, and policies, providing technical responses to Condition Found Reports (CFR) Deficiency Logs (DL) to ensure guidance and processes are followed.

• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer/naval architect applying engineering principles, practices, and concepts to recognize and solve unique problems for ship maintenance with electrical and electronic systems; conducting independent engineering studies; and resolving departures from specifications to ensure ship's maintenance schedules are maintained. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
