Duties

A museum registrar is responsible for the organization and maintenance of a museum's collections. This includes cataloging, storing, and retrieving items as well as keeping track of the whereabouts of each piece. A registrar must have a keen eye for detail and excellent organizational skills and must also be able to work well with others, as the job often requires collaboration with other museum staff members. Major Duties: Accessions incoming collections, Tracks museum and archive property to include annual inventories, Tracks and manages loans and permits, Manages the museum software database, Participates in planning, exhibits, collection advisory committee and tracks research use, Provides access to researchers for both cultural and natural history objects/specimens. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately January to mid-December, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year. Yosemite National Park, California, known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty is the backdrop for this position. Sitting astride the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park covers 1,182 square miles of varied wilderness ecosystems, from river valleys to alpine meadows to lofty 13,000-foot-high peaks. Yosemite Valley is located 208 miles from San Francisco, 81 miles from Merced, and 94 miles from Fresno. Shopping, medical, postal and laundry services are available in the park. Elevation at the Valley floor is approximately 4,000 feet and 2,200 feet in El Portal. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST when the applicant cut-off is reached (which may be sooner than 09/18/2023). Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MUSEUM CURATOR, 1015 SERIES: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in museum work, archeology, anthropology, history, or similar area of cultural resources management. -OR- Successful completion of at least four years of experience that provided the knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study, as shown above. -OR- The possession of an equivalent combination of education and experience that included course work equivalent to a major (i.e., 24 semester hours) in museum work, archaeology, anthropology, history, or similar area of cultural resources management, plus appropriate experience. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. (Course work should have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation). Creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation. You must provide a copy of your transcripts to receive credit. In addition to meeting the above basic requirement, to qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include: applying the principles of museum management, and using technical expertise in, but not limited to, the proper methods for safely handling and storing artifacts, artwork, and natural history specimens; assisting with the management of long-term museum collection storage, and providing and/or assisting with access to, research of these collections; accessioning and cataloging artifacts, artwork, and natural history specimens; documenting museum collections with special emphasis on architectural, archeological, archival, and history collections; assisting with project development including planning and management of a unit and/or program; working with other staff members that deliver museum services and support. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree with fields of study such as museum studies, art, history, archeology, scientific subjects, or other courses related to this position. IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify you must document your course work and/or degree completed in your resume or other application materials you submit. You must submit a copy of your transcripts, or a complete list of college courses taken that identifies for each course the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade received, and date completed. If you are qualifying based on education and you do not submit specific course work information as described previously, your application will be rated not qualified for consideration. A copy of your official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty, if selected. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience that when combined equal at least 100% of the minimum qualification requirement for the GS-09 level. To combine education and experience, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of completed graduate education beyond the first year by 18 (or 27 for quarter hours). Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts and hours per week worked in your resume. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special prior?ity selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
