This position is a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, Division of Clinical Services, located at the Red Lake Service Unit, Red Lake, MN. This position reports to the Radiology Supervisor or designee.

Duties

Receive patients, explains methods of procedures, and positons and sets technical factors to attain a high quality radiograph. Perform all appropriate x-ray examinations, EKGs and other procedures performed in an outpatient ambulatory facility. Perform a variety of basic, moderately complex and complex radiographic examinations. Responsible for ordering and maintain supplies specific to mammography.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others. (2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: For positions at GS-4 and above: Experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment under the direction of radiologists or other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis and treatment. GS-05: 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation OR 1 year of experience performing routine diagnostic radiographic procedures. Experience included producing digital images of routine views of the body (i.e., chest, joints, feet, hands, long bones of arms and legs) under general supervision of a Radiologist. GS-06: 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. Examples include: Perform a variety of difficult radiographic examinations; Receive patient, explain method of procedure, position patient, select and set technical factors, set up and adjust accessory equipment required, and make exposures necessary for the requested procedure; Perform procedures such as cholangiography, linear tomography, xerographic mammography, lumbar and thoracic myelography, bronchography, lymphangiography, or femoral arteriography; Set up the X-ray room; Assure that sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters, or other required equipment are present and laid out; Prepare and administer contrast material orally, by enema, or, under close control of radiologist, intravenously; As required by procedure or patient's condition, monitor vital signs such as heart beat and blood pressure and notify radiologist of significant changes; Perform examinations of head, trunk, and extremities for routine physical examinations and for diagnosis of illness or of injuries of accident victims; Assist radiologists and higher grade technologists to perform more complex procedures such as carotid arteriograms. GS-07: 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level. Examples include: Perform a variety of difficult radiographic examinations; Independently make routine radiographic examinations of head, trunk, and extremities for diagnosis of illness or injuries; Perform procedures as a team member, with a radiologist, such as bronchograms, cholecystograms, cholangiograms, urethrograms, G. I. series, and barium and air contrast barium enemas; Set up the X-ray room; Assure that sterile supplies, local anesthetics, contract materials, catheters, and other required equipment are present and laid out; Prepare and administer contrast material; Schedule patients for examinations; Maintain logs of patients and procedures used; Prepare file jackets on patients X-rays; Requisition supplies; Clean, oil, make minor repairs and adjustments to X-ray equipment, accessories, and automatic film processing machine; Operate film processing machines; Review new developments in the field and recommends to the head of the clinic adoption of those which would improve the operation of the radiology section. GS-08: 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level. Examples include: perform computerized axial tomographic scanning of heads and/or bodies; confer with radiologist to establish requirements of standard examinations and determines technical factors, positioning, number and thickness cut of scans, etc., to satisfy requirement; advises radiologist or referring physical of results of examination, provide preliminary diagnostic evaluation, notifies radiologist or referring physician of significant scans requiring their immediate attention and visualization while patient is undergoing examination; Prepares contrast material under the direction of radiologic for purpose of performing procedure/exams requiring injectable solutions such as IVP, cystograms, cholangiograms, fistulagrams, arthograms and myelograms. Specialized Experience Defined: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
