The Laborer position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System in the Environmental Management Service (EMS).

Duties

The Laborer is responsible for the manufacturing and placement of signage through the Long Beach VA. Incumbent operates a computer engraving system which requires the use of an engraving table, safety saw and beveller and will perform maintenance on such equipment. Position is responsible to ensure the proper installation of manufactured signs is correct and complete. Must be able to interpret basic blueprint reading and understand sketch layout and written instructions as they pertain to signage locations and room identification markers. Position maintains an adequate supply of signage throughout the facility. Will assist as needed with coordinating planned furniture and equipment relocation through the facility. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Performs work that requires light to moderate physical effort. Tasks typically involve frequent lifting and carrying light-to-medium weight objects of 10 to 30 pounds, frequent pushing of wheelbarrows of mulch or dirt and carts requiring similar effort, occasionally lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects weighing 45 pounds, and continually bending, walking, stooping, reaching and standing. Laborers work inside and outside. When outside, exposed to all kinds of weather conditions. Inside work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well lighted, heated and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust and dirt. Exposed to the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes.
