Duties
Serves as a receptionist for visitors entering the institution, provides necessary information, and arranges for contacts with appropriate departments. Processes all visitors entering the institution by checking their identification, and using a metal detector to ensure no weapons and contraband enter the institution. Checks all visitors' identification upon departure from the institution to ensure against potential inmate escapes. Initiates and responds to numerous calls within the institution, ascertaining the caller’s identity before any exchange of information. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: Successfully completed 2 years of education above high school level in any field for which high school graduation or equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One-year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. OR Experience: One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience in maintaining changes to visiting files on a daily basis.
Experience in receiving incoming telephone calls and requests, and refers them to the appropriate department or individual for resolution.
Experience in initiating and responding to numerous calls within the institution, ascertaining the caller’s identity before any exchange of information.
OR Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications to perform the major duties of this position as described above. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
