About the Position: An Engineering Equipment Operator will be responsible for construction and maintenance equipment operation including operating a variety of heavy equipment to create, maintain, and repair a variety of improved and unimproved surfaces. Note: Management may make selections at WG-08 or WG-10 level. Note: The position is being advertised externally under Vacancy Announcement Number CERG235972117791HW.

Duties

Operate a variety of heavy equipment which includes but are not limited to bulldozers with 8'-12'power angle dozer blade, end loaders, diesel powered motor grader, and soil stabilizers. Perform maintenance on a variety of improved and unimproved surfaces such as roads, steep slopes and levees to control erosion. Operate crawler type tractors with bulldozer or angle-dozer blades in moving earth and grade to rough specifications in construction and maintenance work. Operate various heavy equipment to grade surfaces and compact soil. Make carpentry repairs, paints a variety of surfaces, makes plumbing repairs, performs masonry work, accomplishes routine maintenance repairs to electrical fixtures and small equipment, and performs simple flat and horizontal welding assignments. Perform normal maintenance of recreational facilities, office and shop buildings.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination required for physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work outside in all kinds of inclement weather and is subject to discomforts from heat, cold, wind, rain, and dust.
  • This position requires a valid Class A CDL with Air Brake Endorsement. (Note: A copy of your valid Class A CDL must be submitted with this application.)

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-10: Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. I can operate bulldozers, end loaders, forklifts, scrapers, dump trucks, tractor trailers, and diesel-powered motor graders and perform maintenance on roads such as erosion repair. I have operated weed eaters, and push and riding type lawn mowers. I have assisted in carpentry repairs, painting a variety of surfaces, making plumbing repairs, and performing masonry work. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Exposed to considerable strain due to the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently works in awkward or strained positions due to the location of the controls and attachments. The employee also uses moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on tractors to hook up service lines, lower landing gears, and climbing on the trailer to load or tie down cargo. Working Conditions: Work is performed in all types of weather on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The employee is exposed to injury due to the possibility of equipment overturning. Subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. The employee operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. The employee also drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
