About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Southwest Georgia Martin Army Community Hospital Logistics Facility Management Located in Fort Moore, GA. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, who installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs a wide range of equipment for the conditioning of air in a variety of environments.
Duties
Repair equipment for the conditioning of air in a variety of environments such as administration areas, medical facilities, computer server and communications areas, warehouses, hangars and areas requiring strict temperature control.
Test refrigerant systems using nitrogen and/or leak detection tools.
Utilize pumps and other components of a chilled water distribution system.
Work with large projects and systems with complex issues and extensive repairs requiring difficult judgment.
Perform refrigerant recovery duties in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
Use of various meters, gauges and hand tools common to the heating trade to make diagnoses.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires lifting weight of 50 lbs. or more.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD requirements to operate a government vehicle.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Work may involve shift work, weekends, and/or holidays, to include mandatory overtime as mission requires.
- Incumbent must possess and maintain Universal (types I, II, and III) certification as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the Code of Federal Regulations (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F).

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance on air conditioning and heating systems. I can repair various equipment that move and exhaust air such as propeller fans, vane axial fans, inline ventilators, squirrel cage blowers and various air distribution systems for the purpose of ventilation, exhaust and distribution and use of various meters, gauges and hand tools common to the heating trade to make diagnoses. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT - Employee is frequently required to handle and carry tools and equipment that weight over 23 kilograms (50 pounds). Maneuvers large equipment into and out of specific locations while dismantling and reassembling. Hoists, holders and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers and chillers. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, stretching, bending and kneeling are frequently for long periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS - Work is performed outside with exposure to temperature extremes common to this area. Some work performed indoors and in mechanical rooms. The employee will be required to work in mechanical rooms, on top of buildings, in drafty attic spaces subject to temperature extremes, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Subject to cuts, burns, electrical shocks and respiratory ailments. Employee uses/wears any safety equipment or other items required and provided by the employer
