The Maintenance Supervisor serves with the responsibility of supervising the (4) Maintenance Mechanic Supervisors and (1) Motor Vehicle Operator Supervisor within Engineering Service, located at the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System (EOVAHCS).

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: He/she provides technical assistance, develops written procedures, and policies, and develops a comprehensive plan for the M&O Section. This position requires the supervisor to carry out a wide range of personnel management and responsibilities such as the selection of employees, preparation of position descriptions and performance standards, conducting employee performance reviews, and preparing documentation for incentive awards. The Incumbent is responsible for the overall planning and direction of all M&O activities, and repairs of the entire hospital and CBOCs. Research parts, material resources, and costs prepare procurement documents, and establish procurement priorities to meet the needs of scheduled work and emergencies. Responsible for the daily direction and instruction of subordinates in specific tasks and assures that logical and feasible guidelines are established to provide the economical use of resources. Determines when vendor or manufacturer services are needed on a one-time basis for assistance. Incumbent is responsible for the development, review, and implementation of Preventive Maintenance policy and procedure for all M&O Equipment and Utilities. The incumbent assists in the development of contract documents and specifications for M&O projects. Assures that all safety and infection control practices are addressed in all construction sites and work areas. This requires careful planning and up-to-date knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and engineering principles, such as mechanics, mathematics, the strength of materials, physics, electrical circuits, etc. The incumbent conducts periodic inspections of assigned work and ensures that safe work practices, code requirements, FDA regulations, and local policies and procedures are followed. Determines from shop drawings and blueprints the kind and amounts of material needed for construction and initiates purchase requests. Incumbent is responsible for the development, review, and implementation of the Work Order policy and procedures for all M&O Equipment and Utilities. Incumbent maintains an accurate facility utility plan and specifications as a technical reference library of codes, standards, and other regulations. A thorough knowledge of the building trades is required, especially in the complex work of interrelated trades. Assures safe working conditions within the work environment, making sure safeguards are used in handling materials and safe operation of power equipment. He/she communicates orally with this personnel to determine the objectives desired, while conceptualizing, suggesting, and working out solutions to the problems or situations. Motivates staff to operate as an effective working unit. Trains new staff in methods and procedures. Sets the performance standards and spot-checks the work of the staff to assure that procedures are followed, and workmanship goals are met. Responsibilities include the preparation of documents required to procure proper materials, services, equipment, and tools to accommodate a fully operational section. Planning includes estimating material needs, the number of employees required the number of workdays, and coordinating the work with other Engineering shop supervisors. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Position Description/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor/PD140000 Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Physical Requirements: The work requires physical effort, e.g., walking, standing, carrying light items up to 50 pounds, and driving or traveling by motor vehicle. Inspections of completed work may take place in high spaces, subject to crawling into small spaces, kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching above the shoulder, etc. Emergency situations will require employees to work in extremely hot, cold, stressful, light, or dark. Employees may be evacuating patients, repairing utility systems, shoveling snow, running the incident command, or managing the employee response area. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside (heat, cold, under, and outside of the building). Installations, inspections, and repairs are made under dirty, noisy, and odorous producing conditions. He/she is frequently exposed to the danger of strains, cuts, bruises, bumps, and infections.

Incidental operator is an employee, other than one occupying a position officially classified as a motor vehicle operator, who is required to operate a Government-owned or -leased motor vehicle to properly carry out his or her assigned duties.
