This position is located within the Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System in Omaha, NE in the Facilities Management service line. The employee performs a variety of duties involved in the installation, modification, and repair of utilities, buildings, structures, and industrial equipment, from receipt of work order through the final operational check out or inspection.
Duties
The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. Major duties listed but not limited to:
Responds to work orders regarding domestic heating equipment, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, laundry and kitchen commercial equipment, plumbing, and keys or locks
Inspects, maintains, cleans, repairs, tests, and adjusts a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools, and appliances
Following maintenance schedules, inspections, or work orders, performs maintenance services, diagnose system or equipment malfunction an makes repairs as necessary
Performs machining operation on damaged parts when new replacements are not readily available utilizing bench lathe, drill press, grinding wheel, and other common portable power and hand tools
Uses simple arithmetic and accepted carpentry trade methods and techniques
Reads work orders, building plans, blueprints, and sketches. Paints interior and exterior of buildings and facilities
Hooks up to installed systems such as water heaters, and/or storage tanks, circulating pumps, drinking fountains, laundry tubs, urinals, dishwasher, sump pumps, and water closets
Welding work processes to include preheating, hazing, bead welding, tack welding, flame cutting, pressure welding, and heat-treating, and maintaining temperature to prevent distortion
Transports materials, and equipment through-out the installation and on public roads
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (work hours may be further discussed during the interview)

Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, oils, and noisy conditions. Employee is subject to falls from heights, cuts, bruises, inset bites, and stings, scrapes, burns, infections, and broken bones. Employee is subject to strains and injuries from lifting. Subject to serious injury or death from electrical shock and electrocution. Employee is subject to emergency call back duty. Uses safety equipment as required.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include but are not limited to: performs a variety of duties involved in the installation, modification, and repair of utilities, buildings, structures, and industrial equipment; responds to work orders regarding domestic heating equipment, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, laundry and kitchen commercial equipment, plumbing, and keys or locks; performs installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring systems; installs, recognizes causes of faulty equipment, and makes uncomplicated repairs on a variety of small domestic and commercial heating, furnaces, refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems; constructs, alters, repairs, or modifies items and structures such as frame work, doors, finished paneling, windows, interior and exterior trim, forms, and siding; performs a variety of plumbing maintenance and repair work such as that which involves removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply and disposal systems; uses accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes, performs welding duties using electric and wire feed, acetylene and/or inert gas shielded welding processes to weld various types of medal and drives service vehicles with a GVW of 10,000 pounds.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
