About the Position: Serve as a Civil Engineer (Hydraulics) Regional Technical Specialist for Flood Damage Reduction Projects with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Great Lakes and Ohio River Division (LRD).
This is a competitive upgrade to an encumbered position. Selectee remains at their current LRD district location, no vacancy exists.

Duties
Serve as Regional Technical Specialist for Flood Damage Reduction Projects
Flood Damage Reduction projects include large earth-fill, rock-fill, concrete or combination dams or systems of dams with their many hydraulic appurtenances such as gated and un-gated spillways, stilling basins, outlet works, control gates and valves
Provide expertise and guidance to key operating officials and counterparts to districts throughout the region
Encounter many hydrology and/or hydraulics tasks or projects that involve many complicated features
Serve on agency technical review (ATR) teams, and quality assurance (QA) teams
The Regional Technical Specialist will also maintain and promote technical methods and advances, lessons learned and promote technical excellence throughout the region
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes hydraulic engineering and design functions concerning flood damage reduction projects and performing quality assurance reviews on flood protection projects.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
