The Motor Vehicle Operator position is located in the Transportation Unit of the Maintenance and Operations Section, Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) Engineering Service
Duties
The Motor Vehicle Operator's duties will include, but are not limited to:
Operate vehicles with gross weight of more than 26,000lbs equipped with air-type brakes.
Make scheduled trips on a regular and recurring basis carrying patients, materials, and equipment.
Perform operator checks and maintenance of all types of vehicles involving safety equipment, fluid levels, tire pressures, belts and hoses, etc.
Operate dump trucks with hydraulic equipment such as platform lifts.
Inspect Must determine the best and safest routes to follow and be alert to road conditions, hazards, making load adjustments to abide by all laws, weight, heights, and clearances.
Clean and take proper care of vehicles in the fleet for safe work practices at all times to prevent injury to personnel or damage to government property.
Prepare request(s) for parts, materials and services as required.
By nature of work often aids other crafts.
Maintains vehicle records and maintenance of vehicles.
The Motor Vehicle Operator must possess and maintain a current, CDL license is required for Class B, with P endorsement (authority to drive passenger buses).

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

The Motor Vehicle Operator must possess and maintain a current, valid CDL license for Class B, with P endorsement (authority to drive passenger buses). If selected a copy of your current, valid CDL license for Class B, with P endorsement (authority to drive passenger buses) will be requested.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Moderate physical effort is required for the handling of objects. Physical effort is used in reaching, bending, turning in operating the vehicle.
Working Conditions: Work required incumbent to be outside and to drive in all types of weather conditions. There are many times during the winter when the incumbent is required to drive trucks and passenger vehicles in deep snow and on icy streets and highways. Under these conditions, vehicle control is extremely difficult and requires rapid movement of arms and legs to keep vehicles from sliding, causing damage to property and/or individuals. Also in performing duties, incumbent is subjected to dust, fumes and traffic hazards find it necessary to effect emergency repairs. The operator is a regular driver on public highways and agency reservations. Driving involves both daylight and night driving hours.
