The position is located at a Department of Veterans Affairs VHA Medical Center, and serves as a Recreation Assistant working to implement the objectives of the Integrative Health Coordinating Center and the VHA Office of Patient-Centered Care and Cultural Transformation.
Duties

The position is responsible for providing Yoga instruction for the purpose of promoting, restoring, and preserving health and well-being.
Prepares and sets up yoga setting and equipment to support scheduled events and activities.
Instructs Veterans on the safe use of yoga equipment
Ensures the safety of patients during all activities on and off station
Conducts well-being classes, either group or individual, for the purpose of promoting, preserving, or restoring health and well-being.
Coordinates with other staff members concerning the use of the yoga facilities for activities
Develops and maintains a calendar of programs and activities
Adapts yoga protocols to match patient ability and physical limitations
Enters progress notes in patient record for yoga clinics
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm

Qualifications
In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.
To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, applicants must meet one of the following:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is: Conducting Yoga well-being classes, either group or individual, for the purpose of promoting, preserving, or restoring health and well-being. Group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities. Teacher's aid in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities. Aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service. Aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities. Summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, and boating and fishing areas (e.g., demonstrating camping techniques and park safety, conducting nature tours, and overseeing farm animal areas provided for children). Sales or stock clerk in a recreation supplies and equipment shop. Aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control and accountability for such property in a recreation facility. Aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities. Preferred, but not required: ERYT200 certification

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed one-half year (6 months) of Graduate education or an internship in the related field of position to meet the specialized experience required. Education is creditable only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work requires considerable physical exertion in order to perform the assigned duties. The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of an office or training room setting. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
