This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Perform manual labor tasks in support of the operation and maintenance of grounds and facilities. This position is located in London, Kentucky but can be duty out of Somerset, Kentucky. Please see "Additional Information" section below for further details.

Duties

Operate, control, and clean a variety of light duty power equipment such as chainsaws and pressure washers, and work safely with heavy tools such as axes, picks, Kaiser blades, etc. Performs a variety of manual labor tasks incident to trade or craft activities and in support of the operation and maintenance of grounds and facilities at a Field Office or District shop. Use concrete, gravel, and/or asphalt to fill and level holes in damaged roads. Perform routine maintenance and adjustments on tools and equipment such as lawn mowers, string trimmers, chain saws, outboard motors, etc. Perform assignments that involve several steps requiring the incumbent to remember and follow directions and sequences.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Laborer~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common operating, controlling and cleaning of agricultural or construction equipment (e.g., single-function lawn mower with one or more cutting decks and mechanical controls, chain saws). Can assist with trades or craftsmen by carrying lumber, materials and supplies, and scraping and sanding surfaces holding boards, mixing and pouring concrete and other primarily manual labor tasks. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. This position is being filled as a temporary position NTE 6 months. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires the exertion of very heavy physical effort frequently involving the lifting and moving of objects weighing over 50 pounds. Work requires considerable walking, bending and stooping, and some climbing for short distances. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outside in all kinds of weather, and inside in areas that may be dusty, drafty, and noisy. Equipment, tools, and tasks involved at this level frequently require special care to avoid serious injuries. Work on and around river or lake structures involves hazards of falling and drowning. Work requires continuous standing, walking, and stooping.
