About the Position: The Cook position is located in the Nutrition Care Division at Evans Army Community Hospital located on Fort Carson and performs a variety of food service duties assigned in the Production and Service Branch. There is currently a $3,000 sign on bonus with a one-year service agreement.

Duties

Prepare limited breakfast foods that will involve grilling or frying. Perform regular and modified salad preparation tasks such as making fruit and vegetable salads; cutting, scraping, chopping, dicing, and peeling fruits and vegetables. Set up and replenishing the salad bar in accordance to established procedures. Weigh vegetables and fruits in accordance with instructions and directions provided. Perform patient tray service duties to include the assembly of patient trays. Replenish food to service counters, steam tables, and side service stands with hot and cold foods. Arrange food items for regular and modified diets.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

• This position is inclement weather essential. This means that you must be willing to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
• This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement.
• This position may require periodic immunizations (other than the influenza vaccine) and tuberculosis monitoring.

I have the ability to perform common duties such as preparing and cooking a variety of simple menu items that require little or no processing; setting up and serving hot and/or cold food on cafeteria and patient tray lines; operating and cleaning basic kitchen equipment; following safety and sanitation procedures in food handling and in cleanup; preparing food in a variety of ways while weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients for regular menu items under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. There is danger of slipping on wet or soiled floors. Cooks are subject to cuts from knives or other equipment and subject to burns from steam, scalding, hot foods or grease.
