About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, headquartered in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 65 military processing locations (Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS)/Remote Processing Stations (RPS)), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services. This position will be filled on a permanent basis.

Duties

Prepare staff packets, routes correspondence for signature and maintains system to ensure paperwork is tracked to completion for all assigned programs. Disseminate civilian personnel information to the workforce. Coordinate the Command Civilian Award Program. Coordinate the Command Leave Transfer Program. Review, process and provide guidance on various human resources issues and actions. Prepare information for new hires and provide general information on human resources issues. Utilize a variety of computer programs/software to prepare reports/correspondence/etc. Management may select at any of the grade levels announced. This recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade of the position without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management. If filled at the GS-05 or 06 levels, duties will be performed in a developmental capacity under supervision.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: Successful completion of four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: Perform clerical personnel tasks for the office such as assisting new hires in completing personnel paperwork, preparing personnel actions and tracking due dates for personnel programs; Create reports and/or routine correspondence using various automated systems/software; Initiate requests for personnel action for a variety of civilian personnel matters (i.e., recruitments, reassignments, realignments, position reviews, etc.) utilizing the appropriate HR system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Specialized Experience required at the GS-07:To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: Advise managers on human resources staffing/recruitment issues (such as: incentives and awards/leave administration/benefit programs); Perform work involving a variety of special projects or functions impacting all Division areas; Provide procedural guidance to managers and supervisors by outlining program guidelines; Apply independent judgement using established regulations and policies to determine award recommendations meet applicable criteria. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ClericalComputer LiteracyCustomer ServiceTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement (GS-05): Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks may not be promoted more than 2 grades within the preceding 52 weeks. Time in Grade Requirement (GS-06): Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
