There are eight (8) positions will be filled from this announcement. To be considered for any or all of these locations, please verify that the appropriate location is selected. The Fleet and Equipment Specialist assists in managing the fleet program by analyzing the fleet/equipment purchases, managing inventory, tracking driver/operator qualifications, and data entry. Duties

The responsibilities listed below are at the full performance level. Provide advice to managers and supervisors on procedures and policies related to fleet management. Provide guidance and information on procedures and policies related to routine fleet management operations. Complete routine analysis (such as utilization of fleet and equipment and analysis on problems with equipment) and recommend solutions. Complete routine analysis such as utilization of fleet and equipment. Make recommendations to managers on vehicles and equipment replacement needs based upon maintenance costs, age, use, condition and the needs of the project. Assist in administering plans to reduce fuel consumption, mileage and numbers of vehicles and equipment. Create reports or summaries of fleet utilization studies. Assist with transportation and fleet studies to make recommendations for improvement by looking at records of use, replacement program, holdovers, costs, etc. in order to meet the unit's transportation equipment needs. Compile reports on suspected misuse of equipment. Gather data needed for contract preparation. Maintain control over inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment. Assist the Fleet Manager in collecting data for reports and upward reporting.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-7 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; one full year of graduate level education; an appropriate combination of graduate level education and specialized experience; or Superior Academic Achievement (go to this site determine if you are eligible: http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work with major study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, nautical science, marine affairs, marine engineering, marine transportation, or other fields related to the position. Examples of specialized experience includes three or more of the following: Provided assistance with planning, coordinating and gathering data needed for contract preparation and procurement; Entered data into databases and monitored database report for consistency and errors; Assisted in monitoring and recommending vehicle and equipment readiness and repairs. For the GS-9 grade level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work with major study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, nautical science, marine affairs, marine engineering, marine transportation, or other fields related to the position. Examples of specialized experience includes three or more of the following: Monitored and recommended vehicle and equipment readiness and repairs; Monitored vehicle accidents and repairs to motor vehicles and prepared appropriate reports; Analyzed utilization of fleet equipment and created reports or summaries of studies; Provided technical guidance on transportation services, equipment operations, maintenance and repairs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
