The program support assistant/Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (PSA/ADPAC) administratively aligned under the Nurse Manager for education in the Operations line of Patient Care Services. This position will provide program support (both administrative and clerical) to the informatics department.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Resolves non-complex IT issues, VPN requests, requests for IT equipment.
Completes menu/key audit on reoccurring basis as governed by informatics department. Daily reviewing accuracy and completeness of documentation, ensures corrective action and education as needed.
Point of contact for all new nursing service staff for getting proper computer access and training to include programs such as electronic health record, scheduling systems etc.
Acts as information security coordinator for patient care service, providing all mandated training within required timeframes, and ensuring procedures are developed and implemented to preserve the privacy and integrity of all computer data through menu management.
Monitors documents, investigates, and evaluates security incidents to ascertain trends and to recommend appropriate corrective actions to the Executive Leadership, Nursing Service Chief, the Information Security Officer, and medical center management.
Serves as the database manager and interpreter of the software packages utilized in nursing service throughout the whole Lexington VA Healthcare System working with Information Management service and Clinical Application Coordinators in installing, maintaining, and upgrading all required computer equipment and software.
Assist in providing oversight and knowledge of current equipment, as well as assessing the needs and trends of replacement and additional equipment.
Trouble shoots software and hardware malfunctions, problem solves, and determines appropriate actions required to correct.
Orients, coordinates, and implements training to over 950 employees in Patient Care Services, including students and trainees in data input and retrieval for all electronic health record packages, facility-utilized applications such as Outlook and scheduling systems. For example, obtains and processes applications of computer access/verify codes.
Coordinates repair and maintenance of existing and new equipment, as well as the installation of compatible hardware. Incumbents assess computer hardware and set-up need, which includes furniture, surge protection and backups, computer lines and jacks.
Work Schedule: Administrative day tour, Monday - Friday
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

Interchange Agreement: Applications will be accepted for this position under the Interchange Agreement as outlined in VA Handbook 5005, Part III, Appendix C. This agreement allows for the movement of Title 38 and Title 38 hybrid personnel, who have at least 1 year of full-time continuous service, to apply for competitive service positions.
OPM 90 Day Waiting Period: OPM requires that all current permanent federal employees serve 90 days after their competitive selection in their current Title V position prior to moving to another position.
TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6 must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as experience with the use of clinical software packages; broad knowledge of VHA operations, national databases (including the Vista architecture and file structure), composing spreadsheets, analytical techniques, and clinical applications techniques; to be able to provide general Informatics consulting services and to develop and deliver segments of appropriate educational and training programs to VHA employees; knowledge and experience working with software systems and options that affect clinical practice, and basis knowledge of technologies; managing records, performing administrative tasks, and creating and processing reports. Advising those in the Informatics organizational structure of programmatic (formal and informal methods) and security requirements for data access, and advises staff members on directives, policies, and best practices for making requirements operational. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week

Physical Requirements: The work is usually sedentary, but it requires periods of walking, standing, bending or climbing, and employees may carry light items such as books, instruments, laptops, and other similar materials.
