This position is located at the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System, Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Services, in Denver, CO.

Duties

Fabrication of basic custom appliances. Fabricates, adjusts and repairs all appliances. Bend and contour metal to conform to models. Chooses materials that are appropriate for patient diagnosis. Maintains inventory and stock levels, not to exceed thirty days and the requisitioning of supplies and materials as related to scope of practice. Retrieves materials from the shipping and receiving dock such as plaster, plastic and other fabrication materials and components. Maintains chemical and material inventory, and updates mandatory hospital trackers as required by Medical Center policy. Carries out responsibilities of submitting, packing and shipping necessary items as related to work. Maintains current knowledge of new items, procedures and techniques as related to their scope of practice. Attends professional seminars and manufacturers' training seminars. Work Schedule: Fulltime; Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm English Language Proficiency - In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The position demands a moderate degree of exertion and a high degree of dexterity, long periods of standing and walking. The work requires some physical exertion, prolong periods of standing and working at a variety of machines, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching and stretching to work on devices and appliances. There may be recurring lifting and moving of moderately heavy supplies and equipment such as bags of plaster and large sheets of plastic weighing less than 50 pounds. The work environment is generally in a well-heated and well-lighted prosthetic/orthotic laboratory where the employee may be exposed to toxic and caustic fumes and materials and personal protective equipment must be used. The work is frequently around machines, which may expose the incumbent to dust, noise and potential injury. The incumbent will ensure that all machine safeguards are in place and properly used at all times. The incumbent will ensure that appropriate PPE are used, such as, gloves, hearing protection and proper dust masks are used when needed. The incumbent will ensure that the dust collectors, fume hoods and air handlers are on when working in the lab. Also, there may the possibility of injury while working with various equipment.
