**First Review of applicants 09/11/23** Delivers program support to the shipboard community and facilitates fleet participation in departmental activities, coordinates departure events halfway parties, port briefs, homecoming and family events.

Duties

Applies knowledge of fitness techniques and programs to provide a variety of ongoing fitness programs and instructions such as introduction to fitness lifestyle changes, basic muscular toning, circuit training, aerobic conditioning training, etc. for purpose of providing patrons with a broader understanding and application of fitness, skills and abilities. Assists in designing individualized exercise programs for patrons based on their goals or current fitness status by performing fitness profile testing (Aerobic capacity, blood pressure, heart rate and body composition). Screens participant for cardiovascular risk factors prior to exercise via a comprehensive medical history and health habits questionnaire. Enforces all rules and regulations of the fitness center. Attends fitness meetings, workshops, and seminars presented by the Fitness Manager and other outside organizations. Incumbent must exercise tact, good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers. Performs other duties as assigned.

Must have a four-year undergraduate degree in Recreation or Leisure or related subject area and one year of professional experience OR three years of specialized recreation work experience equivalent to the next lower grade and an understanding of the interests of individuals or groups in a recreational setting Knowledge of the principles of recreation. Knowledge of budgeting, internal controls, cash management, fiscal oversight, and inventory systems. Skill in planning and carrying out an enhanced program in the recreation specialty area which meets the needs of the participating eligible patrons. Skill in common computer applications such as Microsoft Office or alike program applications to include word files, e-mails, spreadsheets, presentations, calendars and other information technology resources. Skill in marketing and promoting sports, recreation and leisure activities. Ability to deploy with ship during underway periods. Ability to conduct recreation programs and leisure activities. Ability to direct sporting activities. Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Education

A four-year degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in Recreation Administration or Physical Education.

OR

A two-year degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Recreation Administration or Physical Education, AND two or more years of experience in conducting recreation programs and leisure activities AND experience in directing sports activities.

OR

Have 4 or more years of experience in conducting recreation programs and leisure activities AND experience in directing sports activities.
