About the Position: Incumbent serves as a Training Instructor/Writer within the Faculty and Staff Development Division (FSDD), Army University. Employee works under the general supervision of Chief of Faculty and Staff Development. The incumbent designs, develops, and implements all courses of the Common Faculty Development Program (CFDP) and may serve as course manager or lead instructor for one or more courses.

Duties

As a Training Instructor (Writer), you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list, at the development grade levels (GS-09)(GS-11), you will perform assignments under closer than normal supervision: Provide resident and non-resident classroom instruction in one or more courses within the Common Faculty Development curriculum. Design and develop learning products that include lesson plans, assessments and practical exercises; student evaluation plans; course management plans; and other training materials. Analyze, design, develop, validate and evaluate training programs using multimedia and distance learning technology. Communicate in writing to design, adapt, modify, and edit course training materials, prepare formal reports, design surveys, and other data collection methods. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for resident and non-resident training learning options and instructional delivery modes including distance learning. Advise the Division Chief and Director in the application of training technology strategy, strategies to enhance resident instruction.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance throughout the duration of employment.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY), approximately 25% of the time.

Specialized experience is defined as: Work which includes work that involves assisting in the development of training material; maintaining audit trail documents and using computer automation to collect, store, arrange and prepare documents and reports. Specialized Experience for GS-11 - To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Work which includes work that involves developing and providing classroom instruction and coaching to students; assessing training needs and developing or modifying training courses, lesson plans, or instructional materials based on course objectives. Specialized Experience for GS-12 - To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Work which includes experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating adult instructional programs and curriculum designs; experience in managing or as a lead instructor in adult courses. GS-09 - Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). GS-11 - Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). GS-12 - Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Education

This position allows for the substitution of education for the specialized experience requirements listed above.

For the GS-09 level, the following education can be substituted for specialized experience:

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business, Management, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or field related to the position. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).

For the GS-11 level, the following education can be substituted for specialized experience:

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business, Management, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or field related to the position. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).

For the GS-12 level: You must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
