This position is located in the Facilities Engineering Department of the White Earth Service Unit. The primary responsibility of this position is to perform the duties of a certified electrician, including maintenance, preventive maintenance and repairs of low and high voltage electrical systems, the power distribution systems, and installation of new electrical systems and real property control systems. This position reports to the Facilities Manager or designee.
Duties
This position is being announced concurrently under Merit Promotion and Excepted Service procedures. Installs, modifies, monitors, troubleshoots, (physically tracing and locating defects), loads, tests and repairs, as necessary, all electrical lines, systems, fixtures, circuits, controls and equipment, including electrical warning and fire detection/alarm systems.
Assists with the periodic maintenance of both the emergency and normal power systems including the emergency generator, its control panel and transfer switches and other electrical panels and transformers.
Works from pertinent engineering drawings, specifications, schedules and maintenance manuals in reviewing and investigating current and prospective electrical work, identifying and reporting deficiencies and recommending remedies and/or reliable temporary means to keep systems in operation. Updates drawings when systems are modified or new systems are installed.
Develops/ provides/ documents in-service training sessions for the maintenance staff regarding the safety, preventive maintenance and servicing of all electrical systems and electrical equipment in the hospital, clinics and staff quarters. This includes, but is not limited to, electric motors, fans, normal and emergency electrical power distribution systems including transfer switches, electrical panels and control devices, etc.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
WG-4749-08: Following oral or written instructions and/or work orders; Must have the ability to read, plan, layout, update, and follow building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, drawings, and
electrical manuals to maintain the electrical system and determine both needed and spare parts required for systems in the health centers. Must be able to identify the type and size of wire, fuses, circuit breakers, conduits, and supplies needed to complete project and meet the NEC. Must have the skills needed to remove and replace controls, motors, outlets, relays, switches, light fixtures and controls, and test circuits to see if they are complete after making repairs and installations. Must have skills needed to measure, cut, and bend such things as wire and conduit to specified lengths and angles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR WG-2805-10: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR
Applicant must possess a current unrestricted certification as an electrician.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
