The New Mexico VA Healthcare Network is recruiting for a Laundry Machine Operator assigned to the Environmental Management Service. The incumbent will operate a variety of laundry production equipment including large dryers, small washers and dryers, garment finisher and textile finishing equipment. The incumbent is responsible for working in a safe manner, adhering to established safety policies and reporting any hazardous or potential hazardous condition to management.

Duties

Expected to display sound judgment in monitoring the work flow for textile processing tasks through communication with the linen clerk and laundry supervisor to determine and communicate linen needs to the washman in a timely manner. Be under the direct supervision of the Laundry Supervisor who will give general instructions regarding work assignments. Responsible for correct operation of the dryers, small washers, pneumatic lift system, garment finisher and timely delivery of finished textiles when required. Assist the washman with the test piece program by delivering the test piece to the washman after each load processed. Follow all infection control, OSHA requirements and Joint Commission guidelines when staging washed carts, loading and unloading washer/extractors, small washers, dryers and garment finisher. Responsible to keep assigned work clean and free of debris, and assist in cleaning the plant at the end of the shift. Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Machine Operator/PD50005A Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to stand and walk consistently, perform light to moderate bending and stooping, and able to wear PPE for extended period of time as dictated by the work setting. Some heavy movement of laundry carts weighing up to 700 pounds and use of conveyors are required. During normal day to day operations, individual will be required to perform simple grasping and fine hand manipulation, reaching above shoulder height and frequent stooping, bending, twisting and kneeling. Position routinely requires that individual operate vehicles, electrical equipment and push or pull soiled and clean laundry carts in and out of laundry truck, to and from loading docks to various locations within the TCPF and medical center.

Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.
