About the Position: Serves as Maintenance Worker at the assigned Wilmington District project(s), performing a variety of maintenance, operation, and inspection duties. These maintenance, operation, and inspection duties may include but are not limited to: making water control releases as determined by the Wilmington District offices.

Duties

Perform routine service and repair on equipment such as but not limited to: engines, hydraulic pumps, overhead crane, bulldozer, road grader, and backhoe. Perform routine service and repairs on agricultural tractor, standby generator, mobile crane, truck, skid-steer, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) etc. to ensure proper operation and utilization. Perform a variety of maintenance, repair, and operational duties to support the project and its missions. Read gauges, monitors lake inflow, rate of rise in lake, and operates water control equipment to control water flow and reduce downstream flooding. Provide support to higher-graded employees in developing project maintenance contracts, inspecting contractor services, carpentry work and other repairs associated with maintaining operations of building and public access areas. Utilize hand tools and test equipment to keep parks and office spaces clean; prepare surfaces and equipment for repairs; and performs maintenance to complete the mission. Utilize tools and equipment to determine damages and make repairs; performs a variety of prevention maintenance to parks, buildings and office spaces.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain Corps of Engineers licenses, which includes but is not limited to Dump Truck, Truck and Trailer, Crane, Forklift, and Construction Equipment.
  • Where medical surveillance is required, incumbent must be able to pass all required physicals.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator's license including all requirements of the District Licensing Policy.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment.
  • Heavy physical lifting is required of this position. Incumbent must be able to lift objects weighing up to and including 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Incumbent must be able to perform all physical requirements of this position.
  • Incumbent is required to wear the appropriate uniform for this position. The maintenance uniform shall be worn in accordance with EP 1130-2-520 Chapter 7.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform wildfire suppression duties.
  • Temporary travel (TDY) up to 10% may be required.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last up to 4 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of the organization.

Duties include but are not limited to climbing ladders and steep stairways and working on steep and uneven ground. Incumbent must be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted or up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person. Tasks requiring the ability to lift 50 pounds while working alone include but are not limited to lifting and carrying a five gallon can of kerosene, lifting and carrying a 50-pound bag of wildlife seed, lifting and carrying a 5 gallon can of paint, cleaning liquid or hydraulic oil. Tasks requiring the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. with the assistance of one other person include but are not limited to moving furniture and lifting 80 lb. bags of cement. WORKING CONDITIONS Incumbent works in a variety of conditions. Work is completed on but not limited to scaffolding, high ladders or rooftops subject to dangers such as but not limited to falling, exposed to possibility of burns, cuts and bruises, broken bones or infections. Incumbent may work in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to surveillance of project, various inspections, boundary marking, special events, and emergency situations (respond to public accidents, drownings, etc.). Incumbent must be capable or working in conditions of dust, welding fumes, paint vapors and sandblast particles utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment for those conditions which may be heavy and uncomfortable.
